Please call Reservations for the Wood River Inn at  877-542-0600 or visit their web page for accommodation info. For the Tamarack Lodge Reservations please call  800-521-5379 or visit their web page. When you check in please reference the Paragliding Nationals to receive 15% discount. The Wood River Inn is located in Hailey, Idaho and a shuttle will be leaving at 8:30 every morning for the pilots meeting. Utilize our Facebook group page “2010 U.S. Paragliding Nationals in Sun Valley and Pre PWC” to setup shared room accommodations.  There are a lot of pilots coming in from out of town that are looking for lodging, the more the merrier!  Email Mike Pfau if you have questions.

Camping: There are numerous camping options in the surrounding area. The United States Forest Service maintains and reserves campgrounds in our area.  Make a reservation online at  www.recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777 . Unfortunately, local transit does not service the campgrounds so you will need to rent a car or arrange for a ride into town.

We are also working on having camping available at the Landing Zone at River Run during the comp for $10 a night per person. There will be no facilities except for restrooms at this location. You will be responsible for clean up and break down of your tent each morning to make room for safe landings. People interested in R.V. accomadations may also be suitable for this situatuion for $30 a night. This is a work in progress and not yet approved by Sun Valley.  We will update the site when this is finalized.

Ketchum: Ketchum also has numerous lodging options. Please visit their Web Page at visitsunvalley.org to arrange accomadations.

Arriving here: Sun Valley is a year round destination resort, and there are several options to get here.

The closest option is to book a flight directly into our local airport in Hailey (SUN). Both Delta (Skywest) and Alaska (Horizon) offer daily flights.  Rides can be arranged from here for a $20 fee (contact me for arrangements) or there are several Taxi services that charge between $40-$60 to your local accomadations.

The next closest airport is Boise International Airport (BOI) where several carriers offer daily flights. From Boise it is about 2.5 hour drive by (rental) car to Sun Valley. Sun Valley Stages also operates a daily bus service from Boise to the Sun Valley area (www.sunvalleystages.com or 800-574-8661). If you plan to camp and want to rent a car, we recommend doing so in Boise.

The Salt Lake City airport, is the next closest option. SLC is about a 5 hour drive to Sun Valley.   This is mostly likely your cheapest option, especially if you can carpool.  Again, you can network on Facebook to see about carpooling.

Public Transport: Public transport in Sun Valley and Ketchum is free on the Moutain Rides bus system. That’s right FREE! You can catch this bus from the Sun Valley Resort and many other locations in town which will take you to River Run, where the launch site is just a gondola ride away!  Did I mention it’s free???

Dining: Sun Valley, Ketchum, and Hailey offer up a pelethera of dining cuisine (many who will be event sponsors).  Plan on having some quality grub. Or you can visit one of our markets to purchase food to cook with friends. Whatever your liking we can accomadate.

General Area Information:  The Wood River Valley is the name of the valley where all of the flying and action will begin.  The WR Valley is a beautiful, remote area located in the Rocky Mountains in Southern Idaho.  If you are not familiar with the area, it is a gem located in the middle of 5 converging mountain ranges – the Smokey Mountains, the Pioneer Mountains, the Boulder Mountains, the White Clouds and the Sawtooth Mountains.  Once you are in the air you will be amazed by these ranges and their diversity of features.  The Wood River Valley is relatively small – consisting of just 4 towns – Bellevue at the south end, followed by Hailey, then 13 miles north, Ketchum and Sun Valley sit together.  All of these areas are connected by Highway 75, which turns into Main Street in each of the towns (with the exception of Sun Valley, which is a small “village” on the east side of Ketchum.)

In addition to fantastic flying, this area is renowned for awesome mountain biking, hiking, fishing, rafting, ice skating (at the resort), shopping, eating and more.  To many, summer is the best time of year in the valley for its endless activities and perfect weather – warm during the days and cooler at night.  It’s definitely a great place to bring family and friends – there is a lot to do for all ages and abilities (while not watching the comp.)  Visit www.visitsunvalley.com for more information on the area.
